This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

HELP! Our classroom library is out of control! We have been blessed with literature for our classroom donated by generous donors from Donors Choose but we have no place to put them. We love books, we love to read, but we have no organized place to store them! Our elementary school is a Language Arts/Social Justice Magnet, a public school. We teach responsibility, citizenship, and compassion. We enjoy a rich diversity of cultures and celebrate them all. For the past three years, our hard-working teachers were able to improve test scores and develop our older students` political awareness. Unfortunately, our school is in a low-income district. Since 87% of our students get free lunch, our families and caretakers can’t afford donations. Funding is extremely limited and we do not have any extra money provided for us in the classroom beyond what is required. Children love to read literature during Library Time and any time they have free time. Currently our books are stored in cardboard boxes and our organization system and make shift bookcases are no longer working for us. An untidy and disorganized classroom invites disinterest, and this is the last thing we want to kids to feel…a disinterest in reading! When many of my students visit the Library area, looking for a favorite book, it is difficult for them to locate it because it does not have a specific place on the shelf. Bookcases and organizational tubs will allow students to have a learning environment that is clutter free and more conducive to learning! With the donation a new bookcase, my students and I could organize our classroom library and ensure that our favorite books could always be found! Your donation will help ensure that the enthusiasm my children have for reading will continue; all because they can find their favorite stories to read again and again! You will also provide my students an opportunity to practice organization and responsibility, while creating a classroom environment that invites learning.
