My Project

Some people forget or don't realize that students are in school for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, longer than the time spent at their own homes. In the younger, elementary grades, the way a classroom is presented to them can create feelings of warmth and happiness, and if you're not careful can also make students feel uncomfortable and even fearful. I have been teaching for 7 years and every year I try and make my classroom as inviting, colorful, and comfortable as I can. By adding lamps and pillows and even bringing in alternative seating and plants I can make my classroom turn into a second home for my students, somewhere they can feel safe.

A positive classroom environment is just as much about the decorations and life you bring into the classroom as it is about the organization and management provided.

My goals for this project are simple, create a bright and inviting classroom environment that not only makes my students smile and think their class is the coolest but also promotes uniqueness and and a sense of individuality from other classrooms. As a mother and a teacher, I strive to give my students what I would want my girls to have in their classrooms, and that can be difficult on a budget. With this rug and these pillows, I can give my students something that separates them from other classes, brightens up the room as well, and offers alternative seating during reading groups and circle time. It might seem insignificant but having something new and different is what makes kids feel special and can show them that their differences inside and outside of the classroom are what makes them shine.
