Hooray! This project is fully funded

This holiday season, I want my South Bronx first grade students to have a very special, unforgettable (and educational) experience. I want them to visit the New York Botanical Garden to see the exhibit of model trains running through landmarks of New York City and to explore the indoor adventure garden. Believe it or not, the New York City students see will be built entirely out of plants materials such as berries and bark! At the end of their visit, students will learn about ginger and share gingersnaps. The holiday season is a difficult time for many of my students, most of whom live below the poverty line. Students are nervous that they will not receive gifts. Most parents cannot afford to have fancy holiday celebrations, let alone pay for field trips. This is why I want to help provide students with a great holiday memory and an opportunity they would not normally have. Not only will this trip provide students with a magical holiday experience, students will also gain knowledge about New York City landmarks to use when our class studies New York City later this year. Students will also use ginger to learn about different plants parts and how people can use different parts of plants for different things. Please help provide this special experience for a bunch of lovely first graders. I am certain they will never forget the model trains and spicy ginger treat. I know you will love the photographs of them gazing at the trains and NYC landscape!
