Hokki Stools To Help Us Hokey and Pokey While We Learn

My students need alternate seating to allow them to learn and grow in a way that best meets their sensory needs. They need 11 Hokki Stools.

My Students

Everyday we start our day reciting our creed and promise. We take the time daily to greet each other in a friendly way. We love to sing, dance, and use brain gym to help wake up our bodies and brains for the day ahead. My students have a passion for reading.

My students are a blessing to our classroom.

They are unique, creative, determined, readers, writers, artists, athletes, and mathematicians. They are caring, kind soles who genuinely love to help. They are being educated in an environment that nurtures their love of learning, allows them to learn from their mistakes, and celebrate their successes. We are helping students find their passion, while sharing their gifts and talents with others. We have a sense of community in our classroom and school that is like no other. There is a genuine sense of compassion and love that can be felt when you walk through the door. Teachers, students and parents work together to help build a place where all students can learn.

My Project

Each child is unique, and to help those of us who need sensory stimulation in order to stay focused, these Hokki stools will allow students to complete work and move at the same time. I call it "getting their wiggles out." We have had success with two stools in our classroom currently. The shape, size and stability of the stool allow students to move around the lower portion of their body while reading, completing written assignments, or simple listening. The stools will be used daily and give the opportunity for those who need a stool to have one available.

Having 22 students makes it difficult when more than two students need a Hokki stool.

Due to the ratio of students to stools at this time, some student learning is hindered because they need sensory stimulation, and a stool is not available to accommodate their need at that time. Donations to this project will allow for our class to have their sensory needs met, while we help them achieve success and continue to foster a love of learning.
