Help me give my students a classroom library of wonderful books to instill a love of reading! I have requested a few book box sets so my students will have the next book available!
I am teaching 9th graders this year! One class is English 9 honors and the other two English classes are part of a new program created in my school district called Accelerate. It was created to provide support to disengaged and struggling students who are beginning high school. I am one of 8 teachers who were chosen to be part of this program.
We hand-delivered the invitations to the program to students at their houses over the summer.
We took them on an amazing field trip before school started so we could get to know each other. The program also includes a class they will be taking to work on life soft skills, which includes, a firm handshake, making eye contact, working together, being positive and building up their confidence. We will take them on many field trips to expose them to places and things they may have only heard about. They will also be divided into four houses and can earn points for their house based on making good choices.
I am proud and grateful to be part of this program and am committed to do whatever it takes to help my students be successful this year!
My Project
My classroom theme is Harry Potter. Most of my students this year are struggling readers or simply do not love to read. I designed my classroom to be welcoming and cozy and decorated in all things Harry Potter. I chose books to start my classroom library that will hook my students into reading. The library will be located in my reading nook which includes comfy armchairs.
These books will allow my students to choose books that they are interested in reading, beyond the books chosen for the 9th grade state curriculum.
I want them to come back to read more once they finish a book from the library!
