Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have such wonderful and caring students. I truly love each and every one of them. I don't think of them as my students but as my diamonds. They are all creative and unique in their own special way.
My students are either transient, living with grandparents, aunts, uncles, foster parents, and homeless shelters.
The others live in hard-working single-parent homes, but they all come from a low socio-economic background. Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch because our school is high poverty. My students depend on the meals they get at school. Sometimes, they don't get much of a meal for dinner. My Diamonds are hardworking and very dedicated to their education. But as you know, as an adult, when you are hungry, it is hard to concentrate or even function. So, just imagine how a child feels when they are hungry. My students worry about when they are going to get their next meal or even where it is going to come from. With all this said, This is why I don't make a snack calendar for my students to bring snacks because I know they can't.
I try my best to provide what my students need to be academically successful because they deserve it. Despite all their struggles, you couldn't tell because they always come to school with a smile on their face, ready to learn.
