My Students

My students represent many ethnicities, races, genders and social classes and come from all over the city to our school in the heart of Buffalo, NY. This school year I am teaching seventh grade science, biology(Living Environment), anatomy and physiology. My students come with a diverse set of abilities, interests, experiences and backgrounds, but most come ready to learn every day. By providing support and materials in my classroom, I help eliminate barriers to learning and allow students of all abilities to flourish and grow.

My students show passion for learning; they actively engage in whole and small group instruction, independent work, activities and projects.

By providing STEM based activities, students get hands-on experience and learn about making connections within science content and other STEM fields. The supplies and materials so generously donated through help bring those activities to life and inspire my students in ways that would otherwise not be possible.

My Project

Watching my students engaged in hands-on activities is so exciting and inspiring. I have been teaching since 1999 but the excitement students show when learning becomes fun is truly inspiring. I am always perusing the internet for new and exciting ideas to help students become active learners.

The neon markers will be used when students demonstrate, in words and pictures, knowledge and understanding of various processes and body systems.

This will be something new and different and will encourage working together as groups to come up with a complete and accurate answer in a new and exciting way. Instead of traditional paper and pencils, students will show their answers on their desks and lab tables. How fun!!!

In the past I have challenged students to construct a model of a lower skeleton using paper but we are lacking some key supplies, such as various tape as well as precise balances to measure out supplies. These supplies will enable students to be more successful.

I am already so excited as I think about the projects and activities I can design and utilize in my classroom. The best thing? These supplies do no require a lot of prep work or explanation so we can start using them immediately! That's the best!
