Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Lower-income Hispanics make up 85% of our school. Many live in multi-family homes where extended families share a house. We are in the highest bracket for free and reduced-price lunch. Our school district gave free lunch to every student through October to help reduce expenses as we rebuild. Every single athlete was impacted by Hurricane Harvey but continued to strive to better their progress in our baseball program.
Our athletes are resilient as well as enthusiastic to start this new season.
They keep a positive attitude no matter what comes their way.
My Project
A pitching backdrop and practice balls are basic tools necessary to become more efficient as athletes and students. The benefit to the backdrop is for safety in the batting cage and applies to everyday activities. The rubber poly balls are for rainy practices and drills needed for efficient training.
For example:
Everyday practices require a lot of equipment to get proficient in any sport. A view of our students that participate in school athletics lacks practice balls to help train. The batting cage backdrop is used for safety so when a pitcher throws it doesn't bounce back off the fence. We want their minds to be getting better at their sport rather than worrying about losing or protecting equipment.
We want to improve the efficiency of our students in school and promote team unity and pride.
