My Students

In my third grade classroom one of my main goals for the year is to teach students to develop a love for reading. The best way to accomplish this goal is to have a variety of books that students are interested in reading. Another way to promote reading is to incorporate it into various subjects.

Every year our third graders participate in a Wax Museum project in which they research, dress up like, and present a speech of a famous person.

Every year students enjoy learning about a variety of individuals who helped shape our world. To help students research more effectively, we need a variety of kid friendly biographies for students to choose from.

My Project

Every year third grade students create a wax museum to highlight famous people throughout history and today. The students spend a few weeks reading about, researching, writing about, and creating a speech to give when they dress up as their famous person. Then students put on a wax museum for family and friends.

A wax museum is when students stand in a frozen position and wait for visitors (parents, siblings, and other family to bring them to life, by the simple press of a button.

Students then teach their visitors about the famous person they have researched while pretending to be that person.

In this project we will receive about 100 biographies about famous people from history. This will give our student a wide range of options when deciding who they will be for the wax museum. These biographies are chapter books at a third grade level, and they contain a variety of men and women who have been influential in history.
