Our third grade inclusion classroom is made up of 24 students. Our classroom is a mixture of students ranging from above average to students with a variety of disabilities. A big challenge this year has been finding room for all of our desks with enough spots for students who enjoy standing throughout the day. On a daily basis I have at least 5 students standing during lessons. This is something that I promote because this is how each of them are comfortable learning. This becomes a challenge because they stand out and can be distracting to others. Once our classroom has a variety of seating options, this will no longer be a problem. My colleagues and I are always looking for new ways to engage learners. When we heard of flexible seating we knew we had to do it. My students are very excited about the changes coming to our classroom and this project will help promote a more positive learning environment. We are looking at moving towards classrooms of the future.
