Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students' interest level in history would soar with the addition of historical graphic novels in our library! Graphic novels are formatted much like comics and often stimulate young readers to branch out and explore other genres of literature.
Eighty percent of our student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch.
The majority of our students are Hispanic. Many are learning English as a second language and are not read to at home. In order to encourage literacy and encourage reading for fun outside of the classroom, it is important that our collection stimulates their interest and imagination.
My Project
The most popular area in our library is the section that displays and houses all of graphic novels. We presently have approximately 75 graphic novels in our collection, and they are in constant circulation, making it difficult for students to check-out a copy. We are requesting three copies of each historical graphic novel so there are plenty available to check-out!
This project gives you the chance to make a HUGE difference!
Our students' faces light up when a graphic novel is available for check-out as they are the most sought-after books in the library! As well, graphic novels offer fast-paced action, conflict and heroic endeavors - all things that young readers embrace!
