My Students

My students are in the Philadelphia School District and I teach Geography as well as American History. I would like to continue to reach my students through their interest in history and I want to do so with a hands-on project.

I want my students to make a quilt square that reflects their emotions through this year so that it can be put together into an art quilt.

Through this reflective and hands-on project, I hope to make American history geographical education tangible.

Students always learn better when they can relate to the subject and have something tangible to see and to do. Crafts, Art, and Quilting are directly related and tangible to Historical Studies. I hope to use art quilts to achieve a superior and interactive experience for my students.

My Project

The sewing machine, markers, and fabric will keep my Philadelphia School District students engaged and interactive for the school year.

Each student will get their own supplies to make two quilt squares that are representative of our history studies.

Those quilt squares will be put together into an art quilt for each class so that it tells the story of our year in history while distance learning.

Students always learn better when they are able to see something tangible and these history art quilts will engage them through our studies of history and provide hands-on interactive activity.
