Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are a performing arts school in an urban district in NJ. Students audition to enter our school and must be able to excel, not only in the arts but in their academic classes.

My students are truly some of the most amazing people I know.

They are kind, talented, and hardworking. I ask 110% of them on a daily basis, and they work to meet the challenge. On average, with hard work, our students have a 100% high school graduation rate.

My Project

As a performing arts school, music and the arts are an important part of my scholars' daily lives. As we approach February and Black History Month, it's important for me to integrate the arts into our history lessons.

My scholars will be using the Chromebook to research the Harlem Renaissance and the impact African American artists had on the world.

I want them to be able to see themselves in their art majors and carry that passion and love for the arts into my history classroom. I want them to be able to share their knowledge and passions with their peers.
