Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I have amazing 4th to 7th graders who have worked so hard this year so far. Each month, we have a convocation ceremony where all the middle school students get shout-outs for things that they did well on that month and social emotional targets for the month. After the convocation is over, we have a PBSIS rewards incentive to praise students for all the good things that they have done that month both academically as well as behaviorally. The PBSIS incentive is a choice time for students to watch a movie, get extra time outside to play sports, etc. Three quarters the year is coming to an end, and I want to give my students who have made growth in academics as well as behaviors an extra incentive by raffling off gift cards. Students will get tickets at the convocation based on how many points they earned during the month, and the teachers will use the Target gift cards to raffle off. When students are rewarded for doing what they need to do, it motivates them to keep going and try even harder. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students' behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and school climate.

By giving my students a PBSIS end-of-the-year incentive of gift cards to enjoy, you will not only help me reward my students who have done well this year, but you will help me get them to continue this good work next year, and motivate students who were not so successful this year, to do better!
