My Project

As another school year comes to an end, the challenge to provide our students with the best possible education continues. Good education, as studies show, does not rely on classroom lectures alone. Hands-on tools have now been an integral part of any classroom to make the students understand the lessons better and provide a more real environment for them. In any science class, laboratory experiments play a very important role in the curriculum as students are able to apply the concepts learned in class and in real-life situations. Nowadays, high-tech equipment is made readily available to even the high school science classes, becoming more affordable and more compact.

For the coming school year, I wanted to provide my students with high-tech chemistry equipment to apply the concepts learned when performing laboratory investigations.

As the economic crunch continues, the budget allotted to public schools rarely goes up along with the rising prices of everything needed in the science classroom. Oftentimes, our science budget is barely enough to provide our students with enough glassware and consumable chemicals which makes providing our students with high-tech equipment just a dream. In fact, the closest our students will be to working with high-tech equipment is through online videos and demonstrations.

My plan this school year is to provide students with state-of-the-art tools like the LabQuest 3 interface to use with a pH probe, a carbon dioxide probe, an oxygen probe and ethanol sensor in doing their laboratory investigations. I strongly feel that providing the students with these high-tech pieces of equipment, especially since they have become more compact and affordable, will make them more excited with the lessons and appreciate the importance of the subject matter a lot better.
