This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The most special aspect of my students is their unique and splintered skills. I teach students with autism and intellectual disabilities in a high school, self-contained, career development program. Each of my students will be receiving an Applied Studies Diploma. Their academic and social skills range from Pre-kindergarten to 8th grade level.
This donation will be used to establish an in-house vocational and recreational lab.
I am seeking activities and experiences that will mitigate my students' expressive and receptive communication delays.
My Project
This Cricut and Press will be used to teach my students to be creative and ambitious in their soon-to-come adult lives. I will use the Art of Doing to bypass their unique academic challenges. We will use the Cricut to create textiles(T-shirts, backpacks, towels, hats, etc.), and sell them to the student and faculty body. We will apply creative, business, social and vocational skills to foster individual entrepreneurial enthusiasm. An enthusiasm that may one day be harnessed to facilitate former students operating their own digital store front.
At the very least, I hope to awaken and foster in each of my students, an undeniable and vibrant longing to create and matter.
