My Students

Living in the Missouri Ozarks my students are faced with poverty and hardships; often they don't know where their next meal is coming from. During the school year they depend on the school's support for their basic needs. They are hard workers and determined to survive and succeed no matter what life may throw their way. We are a very small K-8 school, but we try to make the most out of what we do have; a strong student body that supports each other with both their physical and emotional needs.

My Project

A classroom set of: My Side of the Mountain and Bearwalker will bring a wealth of creative ideas to my students and encourage them to become lifelong readers. Both books are based on real-life characters which have to use their wits and knowledge to survive. High order thinking skills will be activated to achieve these goals.

Reading is an important life skill and one that should be encouraged on a daily basis.

Reading a book with a high interest level will encourage students to read more often and become deeper thinkers and problem solvers which they can apply to life in the real world.
