This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are located in a remote area in the desert north of Los Angeles. Our school is a located in a small, tight-knit community of about 3,000 people. These are hard working families with a desire for their children to be successful.

Our school population is made up primarily of families at or below the poverty line, and in most cases, they are receiving public assistance.

Due to lack of funds, these often families often lack the ability to purchase additional texts, books, and even basic supplies to help their children succeed. Our school has a very high percentage of students receiving free and reduced lunch, and many of our parents have never finished high school.

My Project

Your donation will help to purchase class sets of high interest novels for my third grade class. These books will help my students develop reading skills vital to their educational future, while helping add to their general reading abilities. This order helps purchase 20 copies of the books Frindle, The One and Only Ivan, and Third Grade Angels.

These books will give my students access to Common Core standards in a meaningful, practical way that is not offered through their language arts curriculum.

By donating to this project, you are not only unlocking new avenues of learning, but it will also increase my students' desire for reading for pleasure.
