My Students

Our elementary school is "home" to almost 600 kiddos. Our school is pretty unique as we have a very diverse group of students in a rural community. We have many students who can speak more than one language and some students who are new to the country. More than 65% of our students receive a free and reduced-price lunch.

The students in my classroom come from all over the world.

I am fortunate enough to have so many different smiling faces in my classroom.

My Project

We recently opened our elementary school. While having a brand new school is amazing, we have had to sacrifice some of the resources we have had previously. One resource we don’t have access to is a guided reading room filled with leveled text for our students. We have a few sets of books, but not enough to allow classrooms to do guided reading groups and have students keep the books in their book box to read independently.

These book sets will allow students in our school to read high interest, leveled readers.

These books will be used by all classroom teachers at our school to teach students reading skills at their level. Increasing the number of books in our guided reading room will increase our students’ interest in reading along with increasing their reading scores.
