Despite many economic and social barriers, the students at my school are bright and enthusiastic learners. They come from all over the globe! For many of our students, English is their second language. All our students love to come to the library and check out books.
We want to develop a library collection that reflects our diverse student population.
We want to ensure all students continue their love of reading regardless of what language they speak. We currently need to expand our Spanish collection to accommodate our more advanced readers.
My Project
We have a number of students who come from Spanish-speaking homes and every year we have new students who come to us from a Spanish-speaking country. Our bi-lingual section is very small and does not have the materials to accommodate some of our higher readers.
I am asking for a collection of high-interest books, so our Spanish speakers can check out popular books in their language.
As our new students learn to master English, they still should have access to books in their own language. Developing our library is a constant and ongoing process to reflect our diverse population.
