My students need LeapPad Learning Tablets and Games for independent reading, a rainbow organizing drawer for word work materials, and sand timers for reading fluency.
My classroom is full of confident 5 and 6 year olds who are just beginning to learn to read and write. Many have never been read to or picked up a pencil before stepping into my classroom but you would never know it after the launch of Daily 5. They soon have a thirst and love for learning!
I am currently teaching at a Title 1 school.
I have some of the most confident, hardworking, and positive students I have ever taught. They love being in control of their learning through Daily 5. If you were to ask them what they were doing while at Daily 5, without hesitation you would hear them say "I'm becoming a better reader!" and they truly know that what they are doing while at Daily 5 is making them a better reader and writer.
My Project
Being at Title 1 school, many students do not have access at home to technology. Since my goal is to create life long readers and writers, they MUST learn to be comfortable with technology in today's world. For many, school is their only chance to explore and use technology. With the LeapPad Learning system it will be possible to provide these students with opportunities they may not be able to have outside of the school setting. The LeapPads will allow the students to take control of their own learning. We all like reading books that we're interested in which is why I am requesting learning games that will interest my students. I do many fun reading activities during my small group time with students and the dot daubers have made learning fun. To keep the word work that the students do organized, the rainbow drawer is essential. The sand timers will be used to increase reading fluency and will allow the students to self assess themselves independently.
Why Daily 5?
The Daily 5 classrooms produce productive, highly engaged students who are developing a true love of literacy. Students select from five authentic reading and writing choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring. The benefits of The Daily 5 for students include: developing independence, stamina, and accountability.
