Our students are energetic and love to collaborate. Many of them love to share their thoughts, and ideas about their reading (and their daily lives). They seek out books at their level, but oftentimes, the books at their level are too challenging for our most struggling readers.
Even our most struggling readers love to read books that are high interest and engaging.
They love to read about characters dealing with similar issues to their own, and learn about how characters, like themselves, deal with conflict.
My students thrive in energetic, creative environments where they can be heard and share their ideas about their reading.
My Project
I work with a large population of students who want to read, but struggle to find interesting books at their reading level. The problem we run into is a lot of books at their levels are written for much younger students. These hi-lo books reel the students in with social issues, relationship conflicts and real life situations that they are currently dealing with in their struggle to figure out who they are and where they fit into society.
Our students will read books that are highly engaging and at their reading level.
By giving students access to more book options, the better readers they will become.
