My Students

Hello! I am a first-grade teacher at a Title I, Project Lift school. Every single student receives free breakfast and lunch. Project Lift was created because of the disparity in academic performance in my school district. Its goal is to ensure each child reaches a growth of a year and a half so they will be prepared for the following year and later, college and career ready. My students are a handful of diverse learners.

My students are an eclectic bunch, each with backgrounds distinct as a fingerprint.

They come from different neighborhoods, states, and even countries. Each of my kiddos have contrasting circumstances and lives that make them who they are and have molded them into the student they are today. I'm grateful to teach and learn from such a compelling group of children.

My Project

I am fortunate enough to be part of a school that puts the social and emotional well-being of a child at the forefront of our teaching. My school's improvement plan has a focus on raising our efforts to target the social and emotional child as a whole. With that being said, literature is my favorite way to teach social and emotional learning.

What better way to teach social and emotional learning than through books that my students can see themselves in.

These books contain characters and plots that will teach and guide my students on how to deal with social and emotional situations such as problem solving, disagreements, and how to put their feelings into words. These books will be all the more purposeful with characters my students can identify with.
