Hey Dad, Which Colors Do You See?

My students need one spectral tube carousel and eight different spectral tubes in order for the students to learn the behavior of light in class so they can explore different lights around town with family!

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Snodgrass's classroom raised $970

This project is fully funded

My Students

I am very fortunate to teach the students of this community. They are motivated, inquisitive and really enjoy collaborating when given a project. Over the past year, parents have generously donated towards my vision of introducing STEM based chemistry and biology labs involving amazing technology that is used to gather data.

The students appreciate the opportunity to use the STEM lab equipment because it allows them to use technology while collaborating and using critical thinking to produce results which help prepare them for the future.

My Project

Studying the behavior of light is something that is covered in chemistry, physics, and biology so it is vital that my students can get a solid understand of how light is broken up into different wavelengths. Luckily, I have a class set of spectroscopes but not enough spectral gas tubes for them to study. This project is a wonderful idea because if funded, the students will be able to study eight different spectral tubes which are conveniently placed in an easy to use spectral tube carousel and then they will have the knowledge to explore light with their families.

Once the students studied the different wavelengths of lights from the spectral tubes by using the spectroscopes in class, then they will each borrow one spectroscope for the weekend to find as many fluorescent and LED light around town to observe with the families!

The students will teach their families how each of the eight different spectral tubes in class was broken up into different wavelengths of visible light by showing them their detailed lab results and then give their family members a chance to make predictions as they explore various lights around town. Most fluorescent and LED lights are similar to the ones this project requires so the students will report back how their family member predictions and actual results compare. I think this is a great idea and if this is funded, then everyone will enjoy science a little more!
