Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the great joy of teaching elementary music to fantastic K-6 students in Canby, Oregon. We are a Spanish dual-immersion school that serves diverse students with equally diverse needs. My students are inquisitive, talented, resourceful, and kind.

Our music program is in a rebuilding stage following the pandemic and renewed interests in the arts.

My district has recently invested in supplying my classroom with basic musical instruments, but I am finding that we are still in need of some specific equipment- like a gong. A gong is very useful in music class to provide sound effects to haikus and songs. I also want to do a Lunar New Year performance that will require a gong. I find that students are very motivated by the gong as it is so impressive and striking. I know this instrument will round-out our instrument needs and be used by children at our school for decades to come.
