My Students

Do you remember sitting in class in hard desk trying to read a good book? How much interesting a book would be if you had a relaxing chair. My students would love to have beanie chairs in the library center in the classroom.

My students are five and six year old in kindergarten.

These students are highly intelligent and love to read. They attend a school with Pre-K through Eighth graders. Our school is located in North Florida where there aren't any sky-scrapers, mega-highways, sandy beaches and great job opportunities. The majority of the students attending our schools come from broken homes and they are on free or reduced lunches. Our school is one of the best things that a lot of our students have to look forward to, especially for two meals a day and a warm, or air conditioned place.

My Project

We are located in one of the rural areas in Florida. Lots of our students haven't been outside of our small town, let alone another state. Reading will give them a sense of traveling to another place and learning about different cultures and scenic areas. Having those beanie chairs in the library center in my classroom with make them feel comfortable and proud. At this time, they are sitting on a small rug that I purchased myself. It would be nice to have a area that is just for reading and sitting to enjoy a great book. My students are very smart, all they need is someone who cares about them and their education. I am proud to work in a place where I'm most needed. I feel that Donorschoose has done a great job helping these underprivileged students. The beanie bag chairs that I ordered will be great as we rotate from our computer center to our library center. Sitting in those nice chairs will be just what the little ones need everyday. I just can't wait to get this funded.

I plan to arrange my classroom so that my library center is in a quiet nook in the back corner of the classroom.

I can visualize those beanie chairs in my class and my students sitting in them enjoying and pretending to read books that are interesting to them. Seeing their eyes beam as they see me unwrap those beanie chairs will be worth it. I wish that everyone could see how excited they are when I bring in a box from Donorschoose. I tell them that someone cares enough to give us nice materials
