My students are talkative, active 4th graders. They love to work and play together. They would rather collaborate than work alone and they are always very chatty in class. Most of them love sharing their ideas and creating projects together.
The great majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes.
Many of them face severe obstacles on a daily basis, such as food insecurity, parent incarceration, family members who've been deported, drug use among parents, and a general lack of care and family involvement. They need strong role models to motivate and inspire them to reach for the stars!
The Scholastic News subscription will help my students understand current events in a kid friendly way. Also, my students use whiteboards virtually every day to show their thinking, especially during math lessons. They love to use the whiteboards because they are able to edit their work easily and work with partners when needed. The whiteboards are an invaluable tool in my classroom because they help keep my students motivated to learn.
By providing my students with new whiteboards, you will be helping them to use 21st century skills--communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, as well as increasing their motivation to learn.
