This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to my page! My name is Mr. H, and I teach 7th and 8th grade History in Covina, California.

Our students are attentive, eager to learn, and resourceful.

On a daily basis, we venture beyond the textbook to discuss primary source documents and analyze political cartoons. As a class, we have examined the impact of the Electoral College, the idea of democracy versus mob rule, and the complexities surrounding states' rights and the Civil War.

Our student population includes different nationalities and economic situations, all working towards building a community of trust, compassion, and mutual respect.

My Project

Each November, our students visit the Field of Valor at a nearby middle school. The field consists of hundreds of American flags honoring those who have served in the United States military. Several flags include stories describing the heroism of local service members.

Students watch a video presentation about Veterans' Day, listen to stories told by local veterans, and are then afforded the opportunity to tour the field.

Upon returning to school, students are encouraged to share what parts of the visit impacted them the most and consider ways in which they might continue to honor America's veterans. It is truly a wonderful experience.

Alas, the multimedia projector operated by the local Rotary Club is not effective in reaching such a large group of students. Often times, students in the back of the tented area have difficulty seeing the presentation.

Your generous donation to our project will allow us to purchase an LCD HD video projector that we can use to deliver a Veterans' Day presentation capable of reaching all of our students.

Our teachers and students take immense pride in providing valuable experiences to our students, both within and beyond the classroom. With your help, we can continue that effort.
