I need these professional development materials to provide my students with a variety of reading and writing strategies to help them become literate members of society.

My Students

Our students are from all parts of the city and our school is their common denominator. We are their safe haven- a place to feel safe. Our classes assist students in recovering credits so that they can "catch up" to their classmates and/or complete graduation requirements.

Many of our students come to our school looking for the supports they need in order to be academically successful.

We provide as many resources and supports as possible so that our students can be successful.

My Project

The selected books and Teachers Pay Teachers gift certificates will enable me to learn new strategies and pair them with current activities to engage students in learning.

Students need consistency in learning and sometimes new strategies engage them more than other ones.

Through these resources, I will be able to improve my teaching and provide supports for all learners in my classes. By beginning my lessons where students are at then scaffolding to new learning opportunities I can promote the usage of new strategies to add to students' toolkits. The more opportunities presented, the more likely my students will discover a strategy that works best for them.
