Helping Teenagers Learn Cooperation

Help me give my students the book "17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork". We want to do a book club with our team leaders and then give them the platform to present to our team!

My Students

We are a high school football team. We are different than what many people's stereotypes of high school athletes are. Our program has 70 students returning for the 2020 season from our Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes. Our students are an eclectic group coming from varying backgrounds.

The motto of our program is "You Can Count On Me", players and coaches work hard to make sure that individually we are someone that the people in our lives can count on, collectively we work hard to make sure our school can count on us.

Over the last four years we have increased our participation from 41 students to 91 (2019 team), our GPA increased from a 2.47 to a 3.22, and our weight room attendance increased from an average of 12 to 60.

My Project

This book will gives us a structured resource around the importance of teamwork. Over a twelve-week span we will use this resource to guide small and large group conversations around the topic.

This will help us teach our students understand the importance of cooperation and selflessness.

I believe it will help unify our team even more!

We have seen success with small group conversations based around books, TED talks, and videos over the last couple years. I am excited to dig into this book because it has so many “nuggets” that our program can use to propel us closer to our potential!
