My students need Instant Literacy Centers for Working with Words, Sight Words, Phonics, and Word Families.

I am a second grade teacher at a Title 1 school that is in a high-need community. I am a very motivated, ambitious teacher with high expectations for my students.

I am requesting these Literacy Centers to help my second-grade students build the foundations to become life-long readers. Forty percent of my class came at the beginning of the year not reading at grade level expectation. Students need fun, educational activities to bring them up to where they should be reading. Research has proved that children who are not reading at grade level by the end of second grade have a much lower chance to stay caught up throughout the rest of their education.

These Instant Literacy Centers will be used as independent and small group instruction while I work with groups and individual students. The centers encourage phonemic awareness, word recognition, and phonics skills that are needed to increase reading fluency and comprehension. These centers will be used as an intervention resource to fill in the wholes of student understanding, and to give students needed practice.

With your help my students will build life-long reading skills. They will have a colorful, fun way to learn and practice skills they need to become independent readers.
