This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The majority of the students in my classroom come form broken homes and live in poverty. Approximately 90% of my class is on free/reduced lunch. Their home lives can sometimes be very hectic and unstable and school can often be a place that provides structure and comfort for them. One thing my students need in order to be successful is movement. We have several ways to be active inside the classroom such as dance videos and music. However, outside time is also vital to give students a break from the classroom. Students need proper equipment to get their bodies active and moving outdoors.
My Project
Movement is so vital to children's development and physical health. In the 7-8 hours students spend in a school everyday, any and all physical activity they can get during that time frame can make all the difference on their focus in the classroom. Students need that healthy outlet to stimulate their minds throughout the day. My students attend a school with no playground so when we do go outside, they have no equipment to get them motivated to move. The only functional "equipment" my class currently has is one kick ball that they share between all 28 of them. The equipment I have selected will help them make the most out of the time we get to spend outdoors and hopefully in return, will help them be more successful and focused in the classroom.
