Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are extremely resilient. COVID hit Corona, Queens hard. The students are continuing to struggle mentally and emotionally as Omicron increases. We are doing the best we can to make them feel comfortable and safe now that we are fully back in person.

Despite their battles, they are determined to finish middle school strong.

Our advisory class has been working with them on social-emotional skills as well as the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

My Project

Our advisory class has been discussing "what makes a community a community?" An overwhelming amount of our students agreed that a community is what brings individuals together.

Gardens are an excellent way to learn nurturing skills and social interactions.

The students all believe that plants in the classroom would brighten the room and provide them with a sense of group responsibility. The students would each have their own seedling to to grow. Eventually in the spring the seedlings would be moved either to the students home or community space in the school for other students to see the "fruits" of their labor.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
