Helping Little Learners Find Their Calm

Help me give my students a defined cozy space with dividers and a calming pillow to help support their regulation, supported by a soothing water tube to help slow down and take a moment to reset.

My Project

My students work incredibly hard every day to learn in a world that can feel too loud, too bright, and too fast. In our K–2 autism classroom, sensory overload and limited communication skills can quickly derail learning. That’s why we explicitly teach self-regulation—how to calm our bodies, choose a coping tool, and return to instruction.

To do that well, we need a consistent calming space that supports students before behaviors escalate.

The most important items in this project are the Calming Colors® Easy-Clean Room Divider – Sky Blue panels. These dividers will help us create clear, predictable “calm zones” and protected spaces where students can de-escalate, take a sensory break, or work with fewer distractions. For many of my students, simple visual boundaries are the difference between feeling safe and feeling overwhelmed.

Inside the calm space, we’re requesting tools that support different regulation needs. The Brewish 4FT Sensory LED Water Bubble Tube Lamp will provide soothing visual input that encourages students to slow down, breathe, and reset. A Calming Colors® Giant Pillow – Sky Blue will offer a comfortable, grounding spot for body breaks and quiet regulation. For students who regulate through movement, the ECR4Kids SitWell Wobble Stool will provide active seating so they can stay engaged without leaving the learning area. Finally, GiftAmaz Multi-Sensory Mindful Maze Boards will be used for guided breathing—students can trace paths while practicing “breathe in, breathe out,” building independence with coping strategies.

These tools aren’t “extra”—they’re access. With a defined calm space, sensory supports, and movement options, my students can spend more time learning and less time in distress. Thank you for helping us build a classroom where students feel safe, seen, and ready to learn.
