Helping Children Communicate 1 App at a Time!

My Students

I work in a special education elementary school as a Speech Language Pathologist for children diagnosed with autism, PDD, intellectual disabilities, and speech and language delays.

The students I see in my speech room are just beginning to use language to communicate.

For some of my students this is through spoken language. For others, we work as a team to find a communication system that works for them.

Many of my students are looking for help to communicate with each other, and interact with their teachers and peers during the day. If I can help them in any way to overcome their difficulties and have successful interactions, my day is complete!

My Project

A tablet can be used to provide my students with apps that can be used as voice output devices, and can help give them a voice.

Children who cannot speak can use the iPad to communicate their wants and needs during the day.

In addition, an iPad can be used to provide a variety of educational applications to teach basic concepts, reading and phonics skills, and receptive and expressive language.

Lastly, an iPad can be used as a great reinforce, and to teach carryover of skills we've learned in our sessions.
