My Students

In rural Wyoming, I teach all day kindergarten to a group of 17 wonderful students. My students come from all backgrounds and have different skill sets. No matter what their learning style is, I love how curious and eager my students are to learn. They enjoy coming to school and being able to learn in a safe environment.

My students possess a growth mindset.

Learning can be difficult and mistakes are made, but that just means their brains are growing. I will have students be excited about making a mistake and then fixing it. They will exclaim, "My brain is growing." I enjoy their happy spirits.

My Project

Currently, my classroom library has a huge bookcase with a few baskets of books. It is difficult to keep the books organized and to display them for the students to choose from. Right now the students have to go through buckets to find the book they would like to read. I would like to create a more organized classroom library where students can dive into their books.

I would like to have a bookstand where I can display about 20 books that connect with what we are studying for the week.

I have up to 5 students at a time in the library when we have center time. I like to give my students a choice of what they would like to read and I feel 20 books a great place. I like the idea of switching out my books weekly so the students are exposed to a variety of books. I would like my library to be connected to what we are studying in class. I will go to the public library and checkout books that connect to what we are studying.

The bookstand that I found at Lakeshore Learning will display up to 20 books. It also has two cubbies where I can store materials for our library. I have play phones that they read into and I have stuffed animals that they can read to. The cubbies would be a perfect place to store these items nicely.
