Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every day, I teach 38 eager and excited kindergarten through second grade students how to read. My students arrive excited to learn, but many struggle to stay focused and regulated throughout lessons. For some children, sitting still, managing emotions, and maintaining attention during literacy instruction can feel overwhelming. To help my students succeed, I want to provide tactile sensory tools such as squishies, stress cubes, kneadable erasers, and other fidgets that support focus, self-regulation, and academic persistence.

The rhythmic sensory engagement these tools provide helps students calm their nervous systems, reduce anxiety, and stay attentive during instruction.

When children have a safe tactile outlet for their energy, they are better equipped to keep their bodies calm, listen carefully, and absorb complex information while learning to read. These sensory supports will become part of our daily classroom routine and will also be added to our classroom treasure box as positive rewards.

Students in my classroom earn tickets through positive behavior, perseverance, and academic effort. They can then use those tickets to “purchase” items from the treasure box. This system not only motivates students to stay engaged and work hard, but also teaches valuable life skills such as decision-making, budgeting, delayed gratification, and goal setting.

Your generous donation will help create a calm, supportive, and motivating learning environment where students feel encouraged to persist through challenges and celebrate their growth. By integrating therapeutic sensory tools into our classroom, you will help my young readers stay focused, confident, and excited about learning.

Thank you for supporting my students and helping them build a lifelong love of reading.
