Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 3rd graders are an energetic, kind, passionate group. We are a collaborative learning community that works together every day to solve problems and grow our minds...and we have a lot of fun doing it! The elementary school where I teach is a Title I school, meaning that most of the students come from low-income households, and is in a rural area. A majority of the student body is Latino, which is something that is embraced and appreciated by the school community.
I am so grateful that I have been able to start my career at an elementary school with such a diverse group of students, in terms of culture, language, and learning style.
These students deserve the very best educational environment and that is what I aim to provide for them as their teacher.
My Project
Our school is 1-to-1, meaning each of my students is assigned a Chromebook laptop. School-wide, and equally so in my classroom, there are not enough working headphones for the number of students.
Headphones are necessary for a variety of educational tasks on a daily basis like listening to educational audio/videos, English read-aloud functions in tests, etc.
Headphones are on the 3rd grade school supply list, but often what students do bring, do not function properly, or they broke very early on into the school year. Because of this lack of functioning headphones, often my students need to take turns using them or have to play their audio out loud, which can be distracting to everyone getting their work done.
