Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are motivated and eager to learn. They enjoy literature and discussing books. They have a wonderful knack for connecting personal experiences with the literature they have read. They enjoy being read to, and after they have heard books read to them, they can read them on their own. They are learning a new language and developing their vocabulary every day. I want them to develop a love of reading that will take them on great adventures!
I teach twenty-six first grade, second language learners, living in a low-income community in Los Angeles.
Our school is a Title I school with students from preschool to fifth grade. We strive to instill the idea in our students that they are "Thinkers, Leaders, and Change Makers!" I believe they all strive to have those qualities as the year progresses.
My Project
My students are learning all about mathematics to be able to apply it to their real world experiences like learning how to earn, spend and save money. The materials I have selected will help them with activities that will enhance the learning in the classroom. The students are working on a place value unit and what a better way to teach them about money as well.
We need headphones, a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, storage boxes, coin self inking stamps, and financial literacy books.
The headphone will be used with the Chrome books we expect to get in another project to learn about financial literacy. The Teachers Pay Teachers card will be used to purchase units on money to support our current mathematics program with homework, games, and student materials.
The storage boxes will be used to organize the materials and keep them handy in the classroom. The fruit and vegetable cut ups, magnetic dominoes and number match ups to 100 will be used at a center when students are working independently. The staplers will be used to staple student work so it can be organized. The materials in this project will help my student learn more about financial literacy.
