Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach an amazing group of six year old students! They come to school each day with a smile on their faces ready to learn and are so eager when given new opportunities. The majority of my students are English language learners and approximately 94% receive free or reduced-priced lunch. I teach first grade in an inner city, low income area. It is such a challenge teaching in a low socioeconomic school because of the lack of resources we are provided with. I often have to buy materials with my own money and it tends to be very costly.
My Project
We have recently started the second trimester of the school year and some supplies need to be replaced. My students are such enthusiastic learners and I want to help them succeed in school. However, new school supplies are a luxury that I simply cannot afford.
These supplies will make a difference because it will allow my students to take advantage of every moment in school learning .
They would not need to spend their time looking for glue that is not dried or looking for checking pens that work. I would also love to replace their reading folders with more durable plastic ones and replace their reading boxes with durable book bags. Having available supplies will make our classroom run more smoothly.
