Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help us update our STEM library! I am asking for books that include fiction, graphic novels and books about scientists. My school is very diverse with students from all over the world. In the past, I have started off my school year by asking students to draw a scientist. 9/10 students draw an old, white man with crazy hair in a lab coat. When they picture a scientist they often do not picture someone who looks like them. This needs to change! Please help me diversify my curriculum by providing multicultural STEM books.

My students come from all over the world and our science curriculum should represent people from many cultures.

I want my students to see themselves as future scientists. By adding these books to our class library, my students will have access to stories of scientists that look like them. Not only will they have role models but they will learn about contributions to science that are not in our textbook.

My students are smart, motivated, and deserve a culturally relevant curriculum, which hopefully inspires them to enter a career in a STEM field.
