My ESL students come to school every day eager to learn. They are greeted with cheerful smiles and welcomed back to school each morning. We have recently moved into a beautiful new building and hope to continue to encourage the children to explore the world of learning. My ESL students come from low-income families and attend a Title I school.
My students and their families were affected by Hurricane Harvey and are slowly rebuilding their homes.
This is the first adventure in school for our Pre-Kindergarten students. Many of them are learning to speak English. They are afraid for the first few weeks, and then they begin to learn the English language quickly. It only takes a few months until they begin understanding and speaking English.
Many of our families are still working to rebuild their homes. Most of their toys and computers were ruined when the water came in their homes. Many have moved back into their homes but a few are still not living in their homes. Despite rebuilding their homes and moving into a new school building, the children are adjusting well and love their new school building.
My Project
All of my students want to come to school and learn in a safe, clean, organized environment. Each day, they take home their folder to show their family their behavior calendar and homework. We have recently moved into a new school building and do not have storage or a way to organize our take-home folders. We have been using a laundry basket.
I hope to give my students a Turn-In-Your-Work organizer to store their daily take home folders while at school.
My students' homes were flooded by Hurricane Harvey. Many of them have lost all of their toys and books. The school was fortunate enough to not have damage.
While students are living in homes that are being repaired, it is important for them to be able to come to a school that can be their happy place. Our new school is complete, and we moved into the new building in October. I hope to teach the students to be organized by having a way to store their daily take-home folders.
