My Students

I will be a new teacher at this school this year. I have met several children that I know will be my students. Their eyes lighted with excitement when I explained my reading concept for our classroom.

I am excited to meet all of my students next week when school starts.

I know they will come with the “new year, excited to learn” attitude that I hope I will be able to continue to foster.

Fourth and fifth graders have a lot of personality. They are developing their own opinions and have a lot to say at this age. I plan to continue to foster their independence by having them make their own book choices for daily reading, rather than doing whole class book studies. Their unique personalities will come to life in their daily writing journal. I look forward to getting to know each of them.

My Project

My students will be able to make their own book choices for independent reading. I have been trying to build my library to give the students more of a variety but I have reached my spending limit for now. I plan to have my students writing every day and plan to let them sit wherever they feel comfortable. Clipboards or lapboards will make this easier for them to accomplish this task.

Reading and writing will be part of my students daily routine.

My ultimate goal is to help them become proficient in both areas. I hope that by having a variety of genes, authors and subjects I will be able to keep them engaged.
