Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students deserve the best that we can give them! I teach in a low income Title I school where I have a classroom of wonderful students who are eager to learn and ready to explore. They come to me everyday excited to read and get to a new level!

Many of my students come from families who have very little or no education so they depend on their teachers to help them learn to read and write.

The expression on their faces when they know that they have moved to a level, "D" book from a "B" book is very heart warming. It helps me know that I have made a major difference in the classroom as well as in their lives.

As a NEW teacher I would like to give my students the very best of me. Help with materials will give my children the tools they need to progress academically. It will also help them to delve in new worlds in school when they are not exploring them at home.

My Project

My students use Lexia Core to learn letter sounds, word recognition, and sight words which all help with reading! Since they are Kindergarteners, it is essential to help them progress with learning how to read!

Currently, my students have the chance to use technology about once a week since we only have three working tablets and one working computer for the class to share.

The goal is to get my class to equally use the technology daily. It will be used throughout reading stations and students will rotate so that everyone will have a chance to get onto a laptop or a tablet. I am confident that the programs that we use throughout the school day will strengthen their skills in reading!
