My students need school supplies to start the year off right. An organized, fully-stocked classroom will surely kick this school year off on the right foot!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located in the east end of Richmond, Virginia. We are a Title I school, which means many of my students live below the poverty line. The students in my class all receive free breakfast, lunch, and a "super snack" at the end of the day, as well as the option to bring home a backpack of food for the weekend.
For many of my students, school is their sanctuary.
It is my hope that I can provide a safe, consistent, and fun learning environment for my students to achieve at the highest level. Third grade is full of changes that can be exciting to some, but scary to others. By building a strong classroom community, I know my third graders will achieve great things!
My Project
Every year, the dreaded Pencil Monster comes to visit us. The pencil monster sneaks around at any time of day and enjoys munching on things like #2 pencils (Dixon Ticonderoga is his favorite flavor), glue sticks (mmm...purple Elmer's), and loose leaf paper. Please help my class tell the Pencil Monster he is not welcome from day one by letting him know that we are prepared! A well-stocked and organized class is the only thing that can defeat the Pencil Monster!
Many of my students and families find it difficult to afford the basic school supplies required, which can be a major hurdle when it comes to learning.
How would you feel if you were a kid who showed up on the first day of school empty handed? It is my hope that I can ensure every child has quality supplies like folders, pencils, and glue that will last the whole year so they can focus on what they came to school for - TO LEARN! My students are bright and focused and ready to take on the new challenges of this school year. Please consider helping to meet their learning needs.
