My Students

"The world listens for the voice that sings with its heart." My students are taught that every person is important, and singing from what you have in your heart can make a difference in someone's life. We need help to be heard, to share what we have to offer.

The select women's chorale is the premiere performance ensemble at Little Miami High School; a school set in a rural/outlying suburb in Southwest Ohio.

Our school system has suffered major financial setbacks, leaving choral program without funding for over 4 years. Regardless, the students have achieved great things, performing in state/regional conferences, performances at the Ohio State House, receiving state superior ratings, and earning a Silver Medal in the 2012 World Choir Games. The chorale is looking forward to 15 concerts throughout the holiday season alone, while also preparing for a performance in the ACDA Central Division Conference, and ultimately, heading to the 2014 World Choir Games to be held in Riga, Latvia. These talented and caring ladies do all of this with their own family's resources, which can be very difficult, while also relying greatly on the generous support of private donations that we receive from our community performances.

My Project

I am requesting 1 sound system and 1 microphone for the many public performances they give throughout our community. Having a portable sound system will make performing in the community much more enjoyable for the chorale and audience members alike. We are often invited to perform in places where the acoustics do not lend themselves well for the audience to hear the voices (conference ball rooms, outdoor facilities, lobbies of larger buildings). Often times, soloists will not be heard and the ensemble struggles to produce enough sound to fill these spaces. My students will be given the opportunity to perform as a professional ensemble would, while soloists can learn to use amplification correctly. The audience will benefit greatly from this, being able to hear the beautiful music these students work so hard to prepare and share with all who will listen.

With all the obstacles these students have had to face through failed school levies, lack of financial support, and cuts in the music program, they deserve to be recognized for all they continue to achieve.

Performing in community, state, regional, national to international venues provide experiences these students will remember throughout their lives. Most will never have these opportunities again. Help us to share the song in our hearts.
