My students are a hard-working group of kids who come to me specifically for reading intervention. We work together to strengthen their skills in phonics, fluency and comprehension in order to help them become better readers.
Students receive academic intervention if they are significantly behind their peers in reading.
Many students receiving academic interventions have gaps in their skills and learning due to circumstances outside of their control, such as absenteeism as a result of homelessness, coming to the United States as refugees, or learning English as a second language.
My students continue to work hard to rise to the challenges presented to them and are eager to grow as readers and as learners!
My Project
Our school serves a wonderful, ethnically diverse population of students. We have families from all over the world who speak all different languages. Our diversity is what makes us such a strong community of learners.
My students love reading new books, but don't often see themselves (or their culture) represented in the books available to us.
I would love to give them the gift of new books for to us read that have characters that better reflect the diversity in our school and in our larger community. Representation matters and I want my students to see characters who look like them doing great things!
