This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are excellent musicians. They dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to music. Once they enter my classroom, they know it is a safe place but also a very serious place where we learn to be competitive and rise above the competition.
I have had students that have won the state spelling bee competition, the state Hear our Voices competition, Beta Club competitions, and been accepted to District Honor Bands.
Our band is a breath of fresh air to our school building. Our school mainly focuses on athletics so we do our part to receive just as much publicity. We perform anywhere we get a chance.
My Project
Having the proper reeds and ligatures will help our woodwind section to sound like a symphonic band. As we get ready for the season, the students should be able to hear themselves sound as great as possible. We prepare for the festival competition in the Spring and our Clarinets will need to stand out. We also have several super Clarinet players that are auditioning for Allstate this year. They need the proper reed strength to be able to make the best sound. Our school is a single gender school for girls located in Atlanta, GA. All of our students are on free lunch. Our district provides instruments for every student. Our students have a 100% graduation rate at our Leadership Academy and we are a STEM school in Atlanta, GA. We call our girls “Steminists”. They participate in sports, fine arts, and many different activities.
