Many of us as children fell in love with a book or series of books that we read in school. This an experience that every child deserves to have, regardless of their personal challenges or needs.
Many of the students with whom I work require special assistance in learning to read.
We are part of a public school, so it is often difficult to source books or materials that meet the needs of a small group of students, as opposed to the larger, general needs of the student body at large. We strive to fill my classroom with books that can help special needs students learn to read, but it can be challenging to find funds for these specific resources. Books with with this design type provide additional props, learning aids, or large formats intended to help special needs students learn to read.
My Project
Materials such as these help students find that reading experience or specific book that allows them to not only fall in love with reading, but to feel successful in a way that would be much more difficult - and for students, all but impossible - with a traditionally formatted book.
It is my hope that with these specific books in the classroom, I will be able to inspire a child with special needs to delve into the magic that only a book can provide.
These students deserve a chance to learn, just like all other children.
