My students need a class set (30 books) of the story The Boy in The Striped Pajamas to learn about a place and time in history that displayed so significantly the horrors that bigotry and hatred can bring upon mankind and the knowledge and tragedy of this should be learned about by all students.
I hope to provide my students with a class set of the book "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" I believe this story will allow my students to experience a book that not only teaches them but also moves them.
My ESL students this year are some of the most motivated students I have encountered.
They are determined learners, continually pushing themselves to become better students, working diligently to master the English language, and always thirsty for more knowledge. The classroom consists of grades six through eight which, naturally, encompasses a wide range of language ability and skill level Each student brings his/her own unique talent, knowledge, and enthusiasm to the class and all are respected for whatever small or large contribution they can make to the class. The older students take on a big sister/brother role for the younger ones. The camaraderie which has developed between me and my students has allowed us to experience a small thriving community within the four walls of the classroom.
My Project
Throughout the school year, my students have continually expressed an interest in the Holocaust and want to learn more about this tragic event in world history. As a teacher, I thrive on the opportunity to teach a topic my students are keenly interested in, and, one that carries such historic importance makes it more significant. This book will give students the opportunity to truly grasp the severity and harshness of this time period, especially since it is told in the eyes of a child. The story allows the reader to be taken to a place and time in history that displayed so significantly the horrors that bigotry and hatred can bring upon mankind and the knowledge and tragedy of this should be learned about by all students. Additionally, the book is available to be listened to on audio, which is excellent tool for ESL students and helps them to develop more language comprehension skills.
Please help my students and our classroom with this donation!
I am certain that my current and, also future, students and will benefit greatly from these books and the message the story delivers. These children want to learn. They desire knowledge and information, and, as their teacher, I am trying to provide them with every chance and tool to do so. Your donation will help provide my students with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Holocaust and develop into caring young adults.
